Welcome to Pine Grove Township, A Great Place to Call Home!

Bordering New York State, Jamestown NY to the north and just a stones’ throw from Warren, PA to the south, Pine Grove Township is home to the villages of Russell and Akeley and is bisected by State Rte 62, a major highway running north and south.

Pine Grove Township covers 40 square miles with a population of approximately 2,695 residents.

A diverse community, it is home to the historic Weatherby House. Located in downtown Russell, it has the distinction of being the oldest brick house in Warren County. The Conewango Waterway, which was named PA River of the Year in 2015, flows the entire length of Pine Grove Township. It supports excellent fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and small motor boats. A golf club, open to the public, offers a challenging 18-hole course. Added recreation includes, but is not limited to, roller skating, cycling and picnicking. Larimer Park and Werner Park offer pavilions and playgrounds. State Game Lands (Akeley Swamp) is open for hunting and trapping of your favorite game animals during respective seasons. Also, Pine Grove Sportsman Club is available for trap and target shooting.

Farms dot the country side producing everything from milk, meat, eggs, homegrown produce, maple syrup, honey, to hay, corn and oats. For your eat-out appetite there is a pizza parlor, restaurants serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. On the other business side, there is a Dollar General Store, trading post/antiques, used car sales, nutrition consultant, hair care (for men, women and children), tanning, automotive repair, construction, excavating, logging, a machine shop, animal boarding, kayak and canoe rental, log home sales, a baseball bat factory, bed and breakfast/antiques, sporting goods, veterinary care, a state of the art ambulatory surgery center, and a multi Dr. office suite plus St. Bonaventure dual enrollment campus.

Russell Volunteer Fire Dept. provides ambulance and fire service, as well as hosting various programs and activities throughout the community. Several service organizations add to the hometown atmosphere such as Pine Grove Lions/Lioness, Pine Grove Beautification Committee, Pine Grove Historical Committee, RVFD Auxiliary, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, and a newly formed Revitalization of Akeley/Russell (ROAR) committee. Several churches are within the township for your worship needs, including a day care center at Russell United Methodist Church, as well as housing for independent senior living. Two cemeteries ensure that your departed loved one can remain in the community. Eisenhower High, Middle and Elementary schools (while not in Pine Grove Township, but only a short ride to the west) and affordable housing make Pine Grove Township the best place to hang your hat.
